Apparently a great way to recover from hangovers (I was told..). At night, some local friends showed us around to all the great littles places and squares that Montpellier has to offer. Really a great city!</p> <p>For the last show of the tour we went to Marseille, hoping to arrive once again in a cute French city centre.. However, the club was located in a completely different area, a very urban/skate/hiphop one which turned out to be very cool too! We had a good dinner on the roof of the club and with a mix of melancholy, relief, tiredness and excitement we prepared ourselves for the last concert. The sound on stage was quite bad, not your best partner when you’re devastated already.. but the fact that Mayer himself and DJ Kurse surprised us on stage with some funny dances made up for it, so we could smile again! The crowd seemed to notice this and gave us a very warm applause. Personally I must say that even though I had a great great time in all countries, France has won the award for loveliest country of the tour, for me.. But well, that shouldn’t be surprising if you know me. </p> <p>After the concert we warmly said goodbye to the whole MH band and crew, they really made this adventure very pleasant for us, being helpful, friendly, funny, inspiring and inviting. I think we really hope to meet again some day. Let’s plan that at the other side of the Atlantic Ocean though. Thanks a lot. If you ever might read this, Mayer and crew.</p> <p>Next up: sleep, regular boring life, ‘not so nice weather’ and then it’s Lithuania! We’re playing in Vilnius on the 20th of April.. Even though it wasn’t completely packed, the concert went really well and we realized again that France is a great audience for the music of Benny Sings (as well as Mayer Hawthorne, but that’s evident for all gigs). </p> <p>We couldn’t spend any time in Lyon unfortunately, but we had SUPERBE times in Montpellier the next two days. We ate schnitzels (yes), saw Mozart (yes) and played a nice gig at a surprisingly alternative venue with a lot of enthusiastic people! Very nice to experience and maybe (honestly) somewhat unexpected. </p> <p>Milan must be a city full of fashionable people, but it seemed that not all of them were able to find the club that we played at. This place was quite different from the others, but not in a bad way, just differently organized. We had a seated audience (so they would order more drinks and foods) which was OK for us, but not for Mayer’s set of course. He was told that Italian people WON’T be standing during a soul concert.. Luckily he proved otherwise and it turned out to be a cool party! We had to compensate during the night, went to a bar that played 80s music, as you would expect. </p> <p>The gig in Berlin was nice, in a ‘seemed to be underground club without signs on the outside, but hey, this is Berlin, we don’t do that here’.. People were receiving us warmly. The day after we experienced something likewise, people are very kind to us in Germany. The south of Germany is, as was Berlin, also confirming its clichés. Germany did it a little better, with nice clubs in Hamburg and Cologne, packed with kind people paying attention and yelling loudly! Then we played in a lovely club with a lovely, listening and enthusiastic audience at L’Aeronef, Lille. The day after we went to Paris, to first do a small performance at Radio Nova (yeay, finally I met some of the faces behind the voices..) which was great fun. They welcomed Benny with a lot of love. After, we went to La Gaïté Lyrique and experienced once again a great attentive crowd, who sang along with most of the songs.. Lovely!</p> <p>While writing this we’re back in Holland, after some (not so silent, but still nice) concerts in Doornroosje, Paradiso and Oosterpoort, now for a short day off to do some laundry.. Playing in Manchester was nice too. When we went to Glasgow, I forgot my phone at the hotel in Manchester, so unfortunately there are no pictures of this great Harry-Potter-esque city. We loved it!</p> <p>In Bristol we played on a smelly and sticky boat, but with a great crowd, so it was actually rewarding. On day 6 we took the van (and truckers train) to France so now we’re in Lille and I can finally impress the rest of the group with my quasi-French. We’ll play at L’Aeronef tonight, so if you’re around, please drop by…………. Afterwards we witnessed for the first time the show of Mayer Hawthorne & The County -> very tight and polished, really nice. It’ll be a great tour. Together with my good friend <a href="http://timdudek.de/">Tim Dudek</a>, I will be part of the new Benny band. Doing what I should be doing.
